1. Government of Tonga absorbed the JNAP Secretariat to become a permanent unit of the Ministry of Lands, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources under its Climate Change Division
One of the many milestones of the JNAP Secretariat is staff being absorbed into becoming permanent resources of the Ministry of Lands, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources. This decision was envisioned from years ago and became effective as of 4th of April 2014 when Mr. Talo Fulivai and Ms. Ofa Kaisamy were appointed to become permanent staff of the Ministry beside Ms. Luisa Malolo who was appointed in 2013 to the position of Deputy CEO for Climate Change. Ms. Losana Latu was also appointed to be an officer of the Climate Change Division as of September 2013. To date the Climate Change division has four permanent staff.
The Government realized that JNAP Secretariat is a unit of the Ministry that is responsible for drafting concepts and funding proposals, which many successfully satisfied donor requirements in return for funding of climate change adaptation projects.
The JNAP Secretariat within the Ministry will still execute the same Terms of Reference and is acknowledging the Australian Government through its Aid Development Programme for the three years that assisted the JNAP Secretariat with financial support to execute the Tonga Joint National Action Plan on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management.
